Lombard RAC

Hi all,

Unfortunately I haven't been able to meet many of you yet, hopefully I'll get the chance at the Eldon tomorrow night.

This week is the Lombard RAC endurance rally starting from Harrogate on Thursday morning. I'll be running our trusty Championship Polo in the 1400cc category and this years event is also the first to include a historic class I believe, so there should be a few Escorts and Talbots going around sideways. Also, in honour of the late and great Colin McRae, Jimmy McRae and some others will be blasting Group B cars over one of the stages. It should be a great weekend and a good oppertunity to learn about how to get into the sport. I don't know if any others of you do any rallying, but if anyone wants any info I'll do my best to help out. I'm tall and blonde(ish).
Anyway, I hope we do a bit better than on the Welsh Endurance. Wish us luck!

It didn't go so well in the end. Got going okay on the second day after getting used to the new tyres (the event was using rally tyres; quite grippy, I kept clipping the inside of every marker on the first stage thinking I'd slide around a bit more - embarrassing). The first night was also quite a challenge when we lost our dipped headlights - some sort of switch relay problem - and had to hold the full beam flashed stalk out with a tissue that kept coming loose over the selectifs. We then lost an aux light, but we got through to start to pick up time the next morning.
However, we starting to notice some steering problems around lunchtime, which then transformed into gearbox issues and jerks under acceleration. When a driveshaft snapped and the clutch went as we limped over the last selectif before rest and repair, we got out to find that the subframe was no longer bolted to the car! As we were in the middle of Sctoland, it was a long and cold weekend going back to Harrogate, getting a trailer, picking up the car and driving down again. Quite depressing. Still, lesson learned and got some good left-foot practice in for the next one Smile

I'll keep an eye out for stuff to go and watch. I heard the Group Bs were awesome.

lol. yeah well it turns out it helps if the subframe is bolted on properly after it's taken off...

on another note there's a good rally on next week in the lake district I believe if anybody wants a day out.
